Honoring Mothers
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman …
Galatians 4:4
On Mother’s Day there is much thought given as to how we can honor our mothers. Cards, flowers, and of course, chocolates, are always appreciated; but God has already topped them all!
God greatly honored women when He chose to bring the Savior into the world using Mary, fathered by the Holy Spirit. She no doubt was a very good mother and as such would never have chosen for her son to die on a cross. Her "Mother’s love" could have attempted to thwart God’s plan to redeem the world (John 3:16). Jesus honored His mother by doing His Father’s will.
The Bible records many good mothers. Samson’s mother had been very careful to follow all God’s specific instructions regarding her son before his birth. Her heart no doubt was broken when she saw her son going his own willful way breaking the vows he had been carefully taught (Judges 13-17).
Hannah had prayed long for a son, and when God answered, she willingly gave him back to the Lord. How she must have rejoiced when Samuel said, "…Speak; for thy servant heareth." (I Samuel 3:10), and then went on to serve God all his life.
If you really want to honor your mother, consider these examples taken from the Bible. The best way to honor your mother is to honor God.
