Things Which God Hates (Part 1)

Proverbs 6:16-19

1. A Proud Look (disdainful look)

This is the look of someone who thinks himself/herself to be better than others. “Looking down one’s nose at someone else.” The Bible says God hates the proud look.

Satan exhibited pride when he said in his heart “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:… I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” (Isaiah 14:12-14).

In striking contrast to the pride of Satan, consider the humility of the Lord Jesus. Phil. 2: 3-8. The Apostle Paul encouraged the Philippian Christians to be humble, to think of others as better than themselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. What was Christ’s attitude? Though Christ was God, He gave up His divine privileges. He came to this earth in human form and became a servant to God the Father when He humbled Himself even to the point of suffering a cruel death on the cross of Calvary. Why did Christ die? Paul explains in I Cor. 15:3. Christ died for our sins.
